Elano Investments Limited has been recognised as one corporate organisation that is positively impacting lives of communities and people in Africa.
The recognition came recently in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital where the company won the 2017 Award for the ORGANISTAION MAKING A DIFFRENCE IN AFRICA at the African Entrepreneurs Merit Award ceremony.
According to African Entrepreneurs Foundation, the organisers of the Award, Elano was chosen from among several hundreds of corporate concerns in Africa for the award.
The Country Director of Africa Entrepreneurs Foundation, Mr. Kenneth Kosin, said Elano Investments Limited had “consistently demonstrated integrity and a relentless commitment to excellence in the public and private sectors.”
Continuing, he said, Elano was being celebrated and honoured “for their creativity, hard work, determination, success and their contribution to the local community and our economy.”
Responding, the Chairman of the Board of Elano Investments Limited, Chief Gomba Okanje, described the award as humbling, considering that the company was only playing its role in developing the Host Communities of Indorama Eleme Petrochemicals Limited
He dedicated the award to all the stakeholders of Elano Investments Limited and congratulated “all those who have gone through thick and thin to achieve this success story tonight.”
Reflecting on the challenges Nigerians are currently facing, Chief Okanje said, “I want to encourage all Nigerians that in the midst of these challenges, they should try as much as possible to look for things that will make us outstanding in our different areas of endeavour.”
Speaking to the press after the award ceremony, the Elano Board Chairman urged younger Nigerians to be committed to excellence and develop themselves intellectually to able to overcome their challenges.
“You have to learn the ropes; you have to follow those who have succeeded; you have to read books; you have to follow the stories of those who have overcome those challenges that took them to the top. Once you do that and you try to follow their footsteps, there is no doubt that you will arrive at your destination,” he said.
Other recipients of the prestigious African Entrepreneurs Merit Award 2017 were: Il Bagno Limited (Excellence and Quality Brand); Dr. Kennedy Okonkwo (Business Personality of the Year); Chief Raphael Okaruefe (Integrity and Business Innovation); Nisa premier Hotel (Excellence in Quality Medical Services); Whiteplains British Schools (Excellence in Quality Education in Nigeria) Fidelity Bank PLC (SME Supportive Bank of the Year) Unity Gardens Limited (Indigenous Organisation of the Year); Abdulrashid Musa Ujache (Excellence and Integrity in Business); Prof. Aderemi Aaron-Anthony Atayero (Excellence in Leadership); Zankli Hospital ( Excellence in Medical Services) and Nigerian Communications Commission (Organisation Making a Difference).
Others were Oilserve Limited (Oil and Gas Organisation of the Year); Samuel OLawale Owoseni (the Most Enterprising Personality of the Year); Barr. Mary Ikpere-Eta (Integrity and Leadership); and Otunba Victor Ayeye (Excellence and Business Innovation).
Elano Investments Limited is the company holding the shares of the Host Communities in Indorama Eleme Petrochemicals Limited. As part of its community development mandate, Elano Investments Limited has constructed 15 kilomteres of asphalted roads in the seven host communities of Okerewa, Aleto, Akpajo, Agbonchia, Akpakpan, Njuru and Elelenwo.
It has also floated a comprehensive free health insurance scheme for 6,180 members of the host communities, sponsored ten scholars youths to pursue Master’s Degree programmes in top United Kingdom Universities and trained more than 50 youths and women to acquire high demand skills at the University of Port Harcourt and the Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron.
